When I think of Vienna, the capital city of Austria, I immediately picture Mozart, glamorous balls, wienerschnitzel and Christmas markets. After visiting Vienna, I found that there is so much to see and do in this city. Be sure to read the 6 things not to miss in Vienna to ensure that you are ready to explore this beautiful place!
The park at Schonbrunn Palace has been open since the late 1700's and is the most visited site in Austria. It stretches 1 km from north to south and 1.2 km from east to west, so be sure to bring your walking shoes when visiting! The flowers around the palace are amazing and I loved the fountains and baroque style statues situated around the park. There is an admission fee to enter the palace, but I found that just walking around the gardens and taking in the scenery of the park was worth the visit.
You can't go to Vienna without going to a Viennese coffee house, so try Cafe Sacher. It is located in the heart of the city center and is famous for the Sacher torte, a chocolate lovers dream! I also enjoyed the Apple Strudel and the Viennese coffee.
Atmosphere Rooftop Bar & Lounge-Ritz Carlton
The Atmosphere Rooftop Bar & Lounge atop the Ritz Carlton is a must see at sunset. It boasts some of the best views of the city, including the iconic St. Stephen's Cathedral. Also, the wiener schnitzel is one of the best in Vienna!
If you like great city views and you are not afraid of heights, head up the Danube Tower. The viewing terrace is great to see a 360 degree view of the city and visitors can take in the scenery while enjoying traditional Viennese food and wine in the restaurant and cafe. The tower is located outside of the city center, but well worth the visit!
St. Stephen's Cathedral
If you see only one place in Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral should be it! Europe is home to some amazing churches, and St. Stephen's Cathedral is one of the best. Situated in the Stephansplatz, the church has become the most iconic symbols of the city. The interior of the church is breathtaking, especially the ornate sculptures and paintings.
