"Home is where the heart is". This quote is certainly true! After my husband and I moved into our new apartment over a month ago, I have been busy making our rental feel like home. The first thing I did was to put my touch on the kitchen with styling the shelving unit. I wanted to make the shelves both functional and eye pleasing, and add decor that fit in well with the modern style kitchen.
See my finished design below. I am very pleased with how the shelves turned out and love how the colors fit in with the red and grey cabinets in the kitchen.
Here are a few tips to use when styling your kitchen shelves:
Tip 1: Create a Color Theme
To create an eye pleasing, "designer worthy" appearance, it is best to utilize only a few colors in the decor. I decided to incorporate 2 colors-white & black, and added a pop of color with the green. This color palette fit in well with the modern kitchen and it gave some contrast to the dark red shelving unit.
Tip 2: Incorporate Your Favorite Greenery
When you are styling the shelves, incorporating plants adds an organic feel to the decor. In my design, the greenery added the pop of color and a great contrast to the white pots. (I'll admit that I used fake plants, since I don't have a green thumb!).
Tip 3: Include Decorative Kitchen Essentials
Adding kitchen essentials to the shelves creates added space in your kitchen cabinets as well as an eye pleasing appearance. Here I added a tea pot, coffee mugs, sugar and creamer containers, a vase and a domed cake platter to the shelves as these items created the visual appearance that I was looking for. Including any items that hold meaning to you will make your shelves look gorgeous!
